RHEF was happy to help the Class of 2027 set sail aboard the Clearwater (@sloopclearwater) last fall for hands-on experiential learning about the ecology, history, environmental challenges, and importance of the Hudson River. In addition to the "sailing classroom," students enjoyed a trip to the Maritime Museum in Kingston (Hudson River Maritime Museum).![]()

During their trip, the class visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in downtown D.C. The quotation on the statue side of the memorial is from King’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech:![]()
"Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” — MLK![]()
It serves as the theme of the overall design of the memorial, which realizes the metaphorical mountain of despair, from which emerges the stone of hope in the larger-than-life image of Dr. King.
